Charnock’s third away game on the trot sees them up against the league’s new boys Leyland Tigers and the greens are hoping to bounce back after last week’s defeat.
Charnock show their intent from the off with some very sexy football, keeping possession and showing flair and confidence on the ball, at the back MCLOUGHLIN is using his strength on the ball to avert any threat,
TAYLOR and SHEPHERD are instrumental in midfield pulling the strings for the greens and ENTWISTLE is all too eager to run onto the quality through balls and it’s not long before Charnock have the ball in the net after an outstanding spell of possession but it’s disallowed for offside.
The Tigers are looking more like kittens playing with a ball of wool as Charnock are dominant but can’t quite find that final pass, then totally against the run of play the Tigers get a corner and after hours of practice on the training ground defending corners the greens find themselves a goal down from a well taken close range header (1.0) 29 mins.
Charnock to their credit get right back at the Tigers and ENTWISTLE bursts through on goal and finds himself with a one on one with the keeper but his shot clips the post and away to safety.
H.T and Charnock are shaking their heads in disbelief in being a goal down after playing well.
Second half and the greens have sharpened their claws and go on the hunt against the Tigers but nearly go two down in the early stages but for a world class tackle by SCHOFIELD. Charnock still the better side but still can’t find that quality pass, but their never say never attitude pays off in the 55th minute as a great combination of passes sees RAMSHAW and SHEEHAN play a delightful one two on the edge of the box and SHEEHAN somehow manages to get a foot to the ball to guide it in the net (1.1) much to the relief of the thousands of travelling supporters who have made the long ten mile round trip journey to Leyland.
Charnock go for the kill in the closing minutes and can smell victory and again are dominant as the Tigers are chasing their tails against the surging green army. Wave after wave of attack by Charnock but they can’t get that second goal and it finishes 1.1.F.T.
Charnock were superb today in a great game of football in which they had great spells of possession, they knocked the stripes off the Tigers and were unfortunate to only get a draw, however it’s a point and not losing is important in our quest for champions league football.
Again, this week’s m.o.m award goes to a great player who never shirks a challenge and is strong on the ball, this week’s bottle of bubbles goes to MCLOUGHLIN. Well done.
